Employment Opportunities Director of the School of Science Secondary Mathematics Education Assistant Professor of Biology Lecturer in Mathematics/Statistics Director of the School of Science Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the School of Science. The Director serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School and reports to the Penn State Behrend Chancellor’s Office. The School of Science has 57 full-time faculty members and offers seven Bachelor of Science degree programs (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Science, and Secondary Education in Mathematics) and a Bachelor of Arts degree program (Science). The School also offers courses in astronomy, geosciences, and geography. Candidates should have a teaching and research record with credentials commensurate for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure in one of the School’s academic disciplines. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of administrative experience, including a record of progressively increasing responsibilities; enjoy working with students, administrators, and faculty members from a broad range of disciplines; will have experience in innovative program development; will have strong skills in written, oral, and interpersonal communication; will be committed to shared governance; will be strongly supportive of diversity; and will have experience in fund-raising and outreach efforts. Secondary Mathematics Education Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level to begin fall 2010. The successful candidate will supervise the secondary mathematics teacher certification program accredited through Penn State University, teach courses in mathematics education and mathematics, and conduct research in an area of mathematics education. A doctoral degree in mathematics education or related field, and mathematics teaching experience in U.S. secondary schools (7-12) are required. Assistant Professor of Biology Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applications for a tenure-track position in animal physiology. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to research. Ph.D. required; post-doctoral and teaching experience preferred. Expectations: teach upper-division animal physiology, an upper-division course in an area of expertise, and a core course in cell biology; establish an active research program that involves undergraduates and does not require the ability to house mammals; seek external funding. Lecturer in Mathematics/Statistics This position, beginning fall 2010, is an ongoing, non-tenured position teaching first- and second-year college mathematics and/or statistics. Current lecturers in the mathematics program average 13 years of teaching at Penn State Behrend and are valued and contributing members of a congenial department. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarly activity. Master's degree or higher in mathematics or statistics, and teaching experience are required.
