Behrend Lions Athletic Hall of Fame
RANDY
BAUGHMAN '91 Randy
Baughman, a graduate of East High School, was one of the best
playmakers to step on the hardwood for the Behrend Lions. Baughman
could do it all, and he earned several accolades during his four-year
basketball career. Baughman played under head coach Doug Zimmerman and is listed atop the career assists column with 511. He is second all-time in assists per game with an average of 5.2, and he is ninth all-time in scoring with 1,091 points. Baughman also ranks second in free throws made in a career (333). He was tabbed as Penn State Behrend's Co-Male Athlete of the Year in 1990 with Rick Demski, and he received the honor again in 1991. He was voted the team MVP for three consecutive seasons. Baughman
graduated from Penn State Behrend in 1991. He lives in Sweden with his
wife and two children. He is employed by Valeo Engine Cooling. RICK
DEMSKI '91 Rick
Demski, a graduate of Cathedral Prep High School, was a four-year
basketball starter under Hall of Famer Doug Zimmerman and served as
co-captain for two years. Demski
was the most prolific scorer in Behrend basketball history. He still
holds the all-time mark for points scored in a career with 1,446. He
is also number one in field goals made with 567 and free throws made
with 337. He is second all-time in career field-goal percentage
(56.6%) and third in career rebounds (806). Demski,
along with Randy Baughman, led the men's basketball team to their
first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason bid in
1988-89. In 1990, Demski shared the honor of being Male Athlete of the
Year with Baughman. Demski
graduated from Penn State Behrend in 1991. Demski is married, has one
daughter, and is employed by Bristol Myers Squibb Company. LISA
DORENKAMP '90 Lisa
Dorenkamp, a Butler Area High School graduate, was an influential
member of the women's basketball and softball teams at Penn State
Behrend. Dorenkamp
set several school records in basketball. She is second all-time in
three-pointers with 118, tops in three-pointers in a single game with
7, and the single-season leader in three-pointers with 71. She ranks
eighth all-time in career assists with 213. Dorenkamp averaged 14.2
ppg in the 1987-88, and she ranks ninth in scoring career with 847
points. Dorenkamp also played softball for three years, and in 1989
she helped the softball program to a record 18-victory season. Dorenkamp
graduated from Penn State Behrend in 1990. She is an assistant
women's basketball coach for St. Vincent College in Latrobe,
Pennsylvania, and is employed by Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals. MICHAEL
OLIU '81 Michael
Oliu came to Penn State Behrend from Old Bridge High School in New
Jersey, and he became a key contributor to the men's soccer program
during his three years of competition. Oliu
was a co-captain and key member of the 1978 team that beat cross-town
rival Mercyhurst 2-1 to capture the NAIA District 18 Championship. He
was a three-year starter under head coach Herb Lauffer, playing 40
games and netting13 goals and 32 total points. He was the
second-leading goal scorer during his three seasons. Oliu
graduated from Penn State Behrend in 1981. He is married with two
sonsand is employed by M + P Export Management Corporation. ERIKA
RENWICK '90 Erika
Renwick, a graduate from Clearfield High School, was an impact player
for Behrend's softball team during her two seasons in 1989 and 1990. From
the mound Renwick led the team to school records in wins. She was a
pivotal part of a team that earned its first-ever NCAA regional
ranking and first ECAC postseason bid under the guidance of Hall of
Fame coach Brett Banker. Renwick also set many records. She holds the
record for fewest earned runs allowed in a season (13), lowest ERA in
a season (1.09), and lowest ERA in career (1.14). She also ranks
second in shutouts in a season (3), third in shutouts in a career (7),
and seventh for wins in a career with 17. In
1990, Renwick was named Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and
graduatedthat year from Penn State Behrend. She is currently the
assistant director of athletics and the senior woman administrator at
Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. REESE
WETZEL '91 Reese
Wetzel, a graduate of Harbor Creek High School, was a versatile
baseball player for the Behrend Lions during four years of play. He
was a four-year starter and three-year captain, posting a .329 career
batting average. Wetzel
was named to the Mid-East Region Baseball team during his freshman
season after hitting an impressive .413, and in his senior season he
was voted the team's MVP after leading the team in hits, home runs,
and RBIs. He is ninth all-time in career hits with 106. Almost 40% of
his hits went for extra bases. He is third in career doubles with 23,
third in career triples with 7, and fourth in career home runs with 7.
He is also ranked eleventh in career runs scored with 69 and in career
RBIs with 57.Wetzel's defensive versatility enabled him to play
first, second, short, third, and pitch for the blue and white. He
ranks ninth in career put-outs with 277. Wetzel graduated from Penn State Behrend in 1991. He is married, has one son, and is a Pennsylvania state trooper. |
