Behrend Softball Sweeps Pitt-Bradford With Two One Run Victories

Behrend softball swept the regular season series against rival Pitt-Bradford at the Behrend diamond on Tuesday, April 3.  Behrend edged out the 3-2 victory in dramatic fashion when they quelled a late surge by Pitt-Bradford with a triple play.  The women went on to win game two by the same score after Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) put the women on top with a blast over the left field wall.  Behrend is now 11-8 on the season and 4-2 in the AMCC.

In game one Behrend came from behind to win on a sacrifice fly from Lindsay Baughman (Warren/Warren) that scored Kaschauer and put the blue and white up 3-2 for the win.  Sophomore Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) recorded the complete game victory allowing just two earned runs on six hits.  Kaschauer starred at the plate, going 3-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone) went 2-3 with a run.

Behrend jumped out 1-0 in the bottom of the first of game two after Whitby led the game off with a double that bounced off the fence.  Kaschauer drove Whitby home with an RBI single.  Bradford tied the game at one a piece in the second and then loaded the bases in the third but Behrend pitcher Sandra Jaussi (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) got out of the jam with a groundout double play.  Behrend would reclaim the lead in the third with an RBI single from Kristen Macha (Export/Franklin Regional).  Bradford threatened again in the fifth but was gunned out at the plate on a precision throw from rightfielder Kelly Irish (State College/State College).  Kaschauer's bomb to left field locked up the 3-2 victory and the season series sweep.

Behrend softball is in action again on Wednesday, April 4 at Thiel for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.  Look for the women back on the Behrend diamond on April 7 when they host Penn State Altoona at 1:00 p.m.
