Nikki Kaschauer
Named ECAC Softball Player of the Week
For
the fourth time in seven weeks, an AMCC softball player has been
named Player of the Week for the ECAC Division III Southern Region.
This time it was Penn State Behrend second baseman Nikki Kaschauer
(South Park/South Park) who received the honor on May 1.
Kaschauer was also named AMCC Softball Player of the Week on April
30.
Kaschauer helped the
AMCC defending champion Behrend Lions secure the #3 seed in the 2007 AMCC tournament
by leading them to a 4-0 finish of their regular season conference
schedule. She hit .667, going 8-for-12, scoring seven runs while
driving in three others.
Her three extra base hits included a double, a triple and a home run. Kaschauer
currently leads the AMCC in batting average (.477), hits (52), RBIs (33),
and total bases (72). She is also hitting a remarkable .607 against
league competition.
Head coach Stacy Pondo said, "Nikki is having a fantastic season for the
Behrend Lions. She has really stepped up her play and leadership for
our squad this season. Her attitude and work ethic have helped us stay
focused as we head into our conference tournament."
Behrend will play a first-round AMCC tournament game on Friday, May 4 at
10:00 a.m. at North Allegheny High School. #3 seed Behrend will battle
#6 seed Lake Erie in a single-elimination game for the chance to advance in
the AMCC Tournament May 4-6 hosted by #1 La Roche.
