Rodgers-Owens and Wehrle Named Behrend Co-Athletes of the Week

Penn State Behrend sophomore Virginia Rodger-Owens (Washington, DC/P.L. Dunbar) and freshman Amanda Wehrle (Rossiter/Punxsutawney) have been named the ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR athletes of the week for the week of May 5, 2008.   

Over the weekend the men's and women's track & field teams traveled to Christopher Newport for the annual Mason-Dixon Conference Championships.  The women finished the competition in fourth place with standout performances from each of these women. 

Rodgers-Owens took away second place in the 100m and 200m dashes, finishing the100m in 12.61 and the 200m in 26.32.  Wehrle added two third place finishes, including a fifth place finish in the 100m. 

Amanda and Virginia then teamed up for a first place finish in the 4x100m relay, winning with a time of 50.31.  Wehrle was also part of the 4x400m relay team that finished the day with a second place finish.  Both these women also were selected to the Mason-Dixon All-Conference team for their top performances over the weekend. 

The track & field team will gear up for ECACs that will be held May 15-16 at Springfield College in Massachusetts.  Sixteen Behrend athletes have qualified for the championships in over 10 different events.
