- A Signature Station has been permanently placed in the Reed building across from Bruno's. The stations allow for easy retrieval of Access Account credentials for those who have just received their PSU photo ID or to assist those who need to reset their password. With this action, Behrend now has a Signature Station on the west end of campus (Hammermill 135), center campus (Reed), the Registrar's office (to help with the registration process), and the east end of campus (REDC 162 Help Desk, available 24/7). - posted 12/20/07
- Penn State launched its fourth annual Take Control security awareness campaign and contest --- an effort to increase student, faculty and staff awareness of computer security dangers such as phishing, spyware, Internet fraud and more. This year's contest will offer laptop and iPod prizes. All Penn State community members may participate in the contest and learn about secure digital identity practices at http://its.psu.edu/takecontrol. - posted 10/30/07
- All Penn State Behrend students are eligible to participate in the Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) software distribution program. After the beginning of fall semester, students will receive an email from the MSDNAA program administrator. This memo will contain important information that you'll need in order to obtain free software downloads from this resource and will include the distribution web page address and the user ID and password combination that's unique to the program.
Microsoft titles that are available include Windows XP, Windows Vista, Visual Studio 2005, Visio, Office FrontPage 2003, Office OneNote, and Project. Note: Microsoft Office 2007 is not offered through this program.
Questions about MSDNAA downloads, password reset requests, or concerns about software/hardware compatibility may be directed to Behrend's IT support: bditHELP@psu.edu - posted 09/07/07
- Beginning this fall, Penn State will support a new digital entertainment service known as Ruckus. Ruckus members have free access to download more than 2.75 million songs, the ability to connect through social networks, and the option to download full-length feature films, as well as short-form video, including action sports clips and music videos. With the change to Ruckus, Penn State's agreement with the Napster music service will end May 31, 2007.

Vista, the latest operating system from Microsoft, is now available for download from Penn State's Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) software site. Program participants can choose from a single DVD ISO download, or a 5-disc CD ISO download. In either case, the ISO image must be burned to disc prior to the code's installation. Users should proceed with caution; Vista has many hardware requirements that must be met in order for it to function properly. Microsoft is providing a web site where you can obtain more details and check the compatibility of your computer with this revolutionary new OS. Since Vista is so new, support is limited. Upgrades or installs will be performed at your own risk. It is recommended that, as with any operating system upgrade, all important user data, photo, or music files are backed up on another form of media prior to the upgrade attempt. - posted 01/31/07

Three critical deadlines (Feb 1, March 5, and April 2) are approaching for Penn State's Password Change initiative. To avoid Internet and e-mail interruptions associated with these upcoming deadlines, all students, faculty, and staff should go to http://its.psu.edu/password/ and change their Access Account passwords now, if they haven't already done so. - posted 01/19/07
