Mathematics/Education

Behrend is a beautiful campus, perfect to walk through on a sunny spring day or right after a large snowfall, which undoubtedly happens. There is always a place for students to go study, eat, work on computers, or just have fun.
Julie Kosin was familiar with Penn State Behrend before she enrolled, and chose to attend because of its small class size and close distance between buildings.
“I like the campus. I enjoy how everything is centralized and has a campus feel. I didn't want to attend a huge school, but I did want resources to be available to me that other students at larger universities have.”
Since Julie wants to be a mathematics teacher after finishing college, David Falvo, senior lecturer in mathematics, has had the biggest impact on her thus far, “because of his confidence in my ability and his willingness to help,” she said. “He has given me another great example of what a good educator is like.”
Julie grew up in Erie, and lives at home, and although she sometimes wishes she lived on campus to be able to take a quick nap between classes, she thinks there are benefits to living at home. “Living off campus gives me a relief,” she said. “I can escape all of the stresses of school and have the comfort of home cooking and my own bathroom.”
After finishing her first year, what are Julie’s thoughts about Behrend?
“I have met many wonderful people and have gained a great deal of support from faculty and staff on campus. I can't really see myself fitting in better anywhere else.”
