Alliance of Mentors

GROWING TOGETHER IN
THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Behrend’s ESL Alliance of Mentors (BEAM) was created as a support group for   students enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) courses at Penn State Behrend.  Current students whose first language is not English, but who are more advanced in their English skills as well as native English speakers, serve as mentors to ESL students by sharing:

1.Their own experiences learning the English language.

2. Particular practices or techniques which helped them become more skilled in the English language.

3. Pronunciation, idioms, slang, expressions, and other characteristics of the language.

4. Cultural facts and anecdotes from their countries of origin.

Would you like to be a mentor or a mentee?
